Preparation Part 1: those who need to

There are groups of people who NEED to be prepared to participate (and prevail) in unimaginable chaos. These people go about their typically thankless jobs of putting their lives on the line so that the rest of us can rise and sleep with little more to worry about than our boss, or car, or spouse, or whatever. I want to be VERY, VERY clear here. I have the deepest respect, admiration, and gratitude for anyone who would even sign up to put themselves in harms way for someone else especially if that someone else is me. But now that the choice has been made, you owe it to yourself and the guy next to you to make damn sure that you are not the weak link when the bell sounds. The willingness to take on life or death scenarios is a rare and awesome thing, but it is not the same as the physical readiness to take on those scenarios harder and stronger and better and longer than the rest of us mere mortals. America is the strongest nation on the planet. Those individuals who have chosen to guard her freedom and her citizens from harm should be nothing less.

Some of you may be saying, “Wow, for someone who praises our service men and women you sure are being critical and demanding.” To be honest, there’s a pride thing that makes me want every American service person to be the obvious bad ass in the crowed whether they are in uniform or not. That said, this obligation for serious preparation is to those who love you and to those next to you whose lives depend on you. Be strong enough to win the fight. Be strong enough to win the fight and come home safe. Be strong enough to win the fight and ALL come home safe.
